Professor Nasser Al-Aqeeli 

Vice Rector for Research – KFUPM

Prof. Al-Aqeeli is the Vice Rector for Research at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals & CEO of the Dhahran Valley Knowledge Company (DVKC: a university owned company). He has published over 100 journal publications in his area of specialization in reputed journals in addition to 35 conference proceedings. He is engaged in research grants exceeding 120 Million SR supported by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, Saudi Aramco, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals and Lockheed Martin Aircraft Industries. He obtained 17 patents registered with the US Patent Office (USPTO), in addition to 3 patents registered in the Gulf Patent Office. He was able to transfer a number of his patents to existing companies such as “Telaa” and “RuBricks Inc.”. In addition to his specialized area, he published scientific papers in the publishing strategies and mechanisms to support research and improve the scientific output.

Dr Al-Aqeeli also serves as a part-time consultant for a number of public and private entities in addition to Board membership for many entities. He won numerous awards including Al-Maraie’ Award for creative achievement in March 2015 (awarded by KACST) in addition to winning the Arabs’ Creativity Award in Dec. 2015 for most creative Arab achievers, offered by Arab Thought Foundation. He is a member of the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society, American Society of Metals-International, and is chairman of the board for the Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering.

He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Materials Engineering from McGill University, Canada in 2007, his M.S.(Hons) and B.S.(Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.  As a post-doctoral fellow, he worked in materials science and engineering department at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, and also held the position of Research Scientist at Harvard University, USA. Dr. Al-Aqeeli was on the Dean’s list of honor students for each semester during his B.S. degree, and received first honor standing in his M.S. degree from KFUPM. He was on the Dean’s list of honors for Ph.D. at McGill University.
