Professor Jean Fréchet
Senior Vice President for Research, Innovation and Economic Development – KAUST
Professor Jean Frechet is Senior Vice President for Research, Innovation and Economic Development at King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST). A chemist and chemical engineer by training, he is a member of the US National Academy of Science, the US National Academy of Engineering and the US National Academy of Inventors. The author of about 850 research publications with over 100,000 citations, he also holds more than 100 US patents and is the recipient of multiple international awards. Frechet is well-known for his research work which encompasses both academic and entrepreneurial activities in the broad area of nanoscience and nanotechnology. In 2010 he left his chaired position at the University of California, Berkeley, to take up the role of Vice President for Research at KAUST where he oversees the University’s research activities, developing strategies, initiating programs and managing resources to support interdisciplinary, collaborative research bridging science and engineering.
